Tides are the predictable rise and fall of the sea caused primarily by the force of gravity between the Earth, Moon and Sun.

Springs: Tides with a larger than a average range

Neap tides: Tides with a smaller than a average range

 Standart Ports

Tide tables are produced for larger ports and give the time heights of high and low water for every day of the year.

Secondary Ports

Almanacs include adjustments that can be applied to the times and heights of standard ports to work out the correct information for secondary ports. Each secondary port will have a table which describes the difference between the standard port and the secondary port. There are four sections of the table:

– High water time adjustments (Part 1)

– Low water time adjustments (Part 2)

– High water height adjustments (Part 3)

– Low water height adjustments (Part 4)

The diagram sums up the most important levels and datums involved with heights, depths and tidal calculations.
